Gokarna: A Slice of Beachy Paradise

Spring was bursting forth that bright morning when I reached the picturesque little
pilgrimage town of Gokarna. Nestled quietly away in the beautiful Karnataka
countryside, Gokarna was just waking up when I started my own little pilgrimage
there.  However, the native people seemed to have already wrapped up their chores
for the day and were more than willing to help me charter a route to a hidden beach
which is renowned for its mesmerizing charm and unparalleled beauty.

Surreptitious Beaches and Resplendent Woods

The trek in front of me was an arduous one as it was quite narrow and uphill but it
wasn’t without its charm. Through the wooded path in the springtime I could revere
the stillness of the forest. It cleansed all the fatigue of the trek as well as the
travelling and left me with a new found vigour to reach this hidden beach. Slowly the
whiff of the salty ocean winds hit me and I ran towards the clearing of the path where
I was met with a very dazzling sight that I could never forget. It was the cleanest
stretch of sand I had ever seen in the entire country. On one side it was flanked by
the Arabian Sea, while the other side was delineated by the towering Western Ghats
and in between, a reticent C-shaped beach with a mesmerizing view.

Concoction of Cultures
I swam the oceans for most of the day but kept running back to shore to play some
beach volleyball with my friends who were enjoying the clean sands thoroughly. We
also threw a frisbee with some friends we’d made there. By the nightfall we all sat
around a bonfire and strummed our favourite songs under the blanket of the starry
skies. The night was a heady concoction of cultures from all around the world
enjoying this little slice of paradise.
